This
is a picture of Emily Austin of Utah. Isn’t she just beautiful? Emily has the sweetest smile and sparkling eyes. After our
June board meeting, Jill and I went to visit Emily, a 15 year old
teenager. As a
young child, Emily was bruising easily, and her mom took her to
the doctor. At the age of 5 years, Emily was diagnosed with
Leukemia. She
underwent treatment and has been in remission twice. The onset of
leg pains was a signal the cancer was coming back. Last year Emily
underwent a bone marrow transplant. No one in the family was a
match, so she had an anonymous donor. When she lost her hair she
had told us “It was a disappointment.”
What
a wonderful experience it was for us to meet and talk with her.
She is currently doing well and is back in school, Emily will be
going into 9th grade and is looking forward to Orem High School.
We brought her a Mary Engelbreit red and black quilt. She was very
happy as you can see in this picture. Her last comment to us as we
were on our way out the door was, “I love the color red.” We
were lucky with the color choice; and let’s all pray that she is
lucky, and this will be her last treatment for Cancer!
This
month The Mueller Park 7th Ward donated another 35 quilts. That is
a total of 123 from them.
Elaine’s
Quilt Block is fabulous – another 14 finished. (As I am writing
this I received a phone call and they have another 3 bags –
usually 8 to 10 quilts in a bag.) What a great start for next
month’s report.
Another
roving reporter indicates that Shirley’s Fabrics in Roosevelt
has donated fabric for backing quilts to the Uintah Basin
Quilters Guild for Q4C.
The
Area Reps brought me either finished quilts or pictures and the
list is as follows:

I
received an e-mail from Liz Sulik who moved to Texas last year.
She was at Quilt Fest when Jill gave us each our challenge
“…every guild member please make a Quilt4Cancer.” She took
this challenge to heart and made a Q4C.
She asked for an address in order to mail her quilt. What a
wonderful gift of love, and her charity is much appreciated. Liz
is a great example for all of us, as well as you guild members who
have fulfilled this challenge in completing a quilt. Those who
have not finished – please get your quilt(s) finished and turned
in. We are nearing the 500 goal.
