Houston Quilt Show Finalist

by Barbara Murdock

Congratulations are in order for three quilters from Utah! Their quilts were chosen as finalists for the International Quilt Show in Houston. The winners will be announced November 2 during the Winners Circle Celebration, prior to the International Quilt Festival, the largest annual quilt show in the world. This year, $98,250 in cash prizes will be given to the winners.

These finalists had to pass a stringent screening process by a panel of jurors, which included noted quilt artists, authors and teachers Renae Haddadin, Charlotte Warr Andersen and Jeana Kimball.

The finalists are Susan Gilgen, for her Autumn Birches quilt in the Art-Naturescapes category; Marilyn Badger and her quilt, Filigree, in the Machine Quilting category and Pat Peters with her quilt, Birds and Roses, in the Hand Quilting category.

Susan Gilgen will be the speaker at the Saturday luncheon during Quilt Fest. Pat Peters was recently a guest at the Utah Valley Quilt Guild and showed us her quilt and told about the making of it.

Congratulations to these wonderful quilters from the St. George Area!!
