Lost and Found Library Books by Joyce Marder

Thanks to everyone who has contacted me to borrow, return, or donate a book to the UQG Library. I appreciate your interest and support.

Speaking of which, the Board asked me if there was “much” interest in the Library. I’m not sure how to tell. I know that not many people use this resource. However, the few who do tend to borrow 5-10 books at a time. I’ve gotten a few handwritten notes of appreciation. So, I told the Board that the Library is definitely worthwhile. Yet, there are problems.  Perhaps 30 days just isn’t long enough. I know my quilt projects tend to take years to complete.  That’s why I’m more inclined to buy a book than borrow one.

So, here’s my solution: If you need to keep a book for longer than 30 days, please let me know and I’ll give you     another 30 days.  However, if someone else wants the book, you should return it to me or mail it to the next person on the waiting list. (I’ll let you know who that is.) You can borrow it back. I’ve got books that have been checked out since August.  That’s a bit much. Especially when the book is brand new. If you are the next person on the waiting list and the book does not arrive, please let me know that too.  I’ll buy another copy if necessary.

To put this all in perspective, I just spent about 1/4 of my annual budget to replace some of the much-borrowed-but-now-missing library books which were checked out in 2005 and 2006. One title which I did not replace is available for $108.00!

If you haven’t visited the Library, you should. Just to see what’s here. I’ll host Library Open Houses on Thursday, March 13th and Thursday, March 27th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. If another time is better, contact me, 801-467-2945 or joycemarder@hotmail.com  . If you leave a message, please allow 24-72 hours for a reply. Phone calls get priority.
