Description:
The Nutcracker is a table mat/wall hanging project made of wool & silk velvet; and embellished with a variety threads such as Pearl Cotton,Trebizond Silk, Braided Metallic thread, Sue Spargo's Razzle and Dazzle, Hot Fix gold studs & crystals, and more. You will learn how to prep, applique, and embellish wool with a variety of embroidery stitches. We will talk about finishing with a backing and blanket stitch. The kit will include all wool, silk velvet, and hot fix items, and embellishment threads needed and a threader. You will need to bring a variety of your own needles which I will email a list to all participants. This class will be split into 2 classes with a day in between allowing time for the wool to be whip stitched onto the background before we go on to the embellishment class.

The charts below show your pre-class prep for cutting squares and making half square triangles. There will be a demo in class for several ways to make HST, so wait for class if you’d rather. Important: Cut squares and make HST 2.5” (2” finished), 2” (1.5” finished), 1.5” (1” finished).

1” finished: 18” x 18” (Cut 1.5” squares) 1.5” finished: 27” x 27” (Cut 2” squares) 2” finished: 36” x 36” (Cut 2.5” squares)

Fabric yardages are only given if you need ¼ yd or more. Fat quarters or scraps will work for the other colors.

This class will teach you how to turn your fabric scraps into a beautiful quilt using the Galaxy pattern by Jordan Fabrics, and you will be trading fabrics with fellow students! Scrap quilts allow you to use up a wide variety of fabrics to create a quilt as unique and colorful as you are. Fussy cuts, random bits, or coordinated fabrics, scrap quilts are a great way to express yourself through your craft. Learn from Vanessa Moon, organizer and participant of numerous monthly “Scrap Swaps,” the art of transforming an eclectic collection of fabric scraps into a quilt you would be proud to use and display. In this class, we will be swapping 5 in charm squares with other students so you can play with other people’s fabrics, contribute to their quilts, and connect with other scrappy quilters. The Christmas Box International works to prevent child abuse and defend children through a culture of universal diversity, inclusion, and love.
They partner with local, national, and international groups to improve the quality of life for children, teens, and young adults who are victims of abuse, neglect, trafficking, or are facing homelessness.
We will be collecting 12-1/2 inch block to be sewn together on Wednesday evening.
