Class Description - You will learn to make a quick set of triangles and then put together a quilt that gives the effect of water rippling over pebbles in a creek. The effect is stunning and all-consuming as you watch the magic unfold. This pattern lends itself very well to those large bold prints such as florals or Kaffe Fassett's, or other collections that you purchase because you love them, but which often sit unused as they can be hard to put together. You may want to choose a theme to express in your fabrics such as fire, a walk along the beach, autumn, or gardening. Batiks and solid fabrics can be stunning too. The trick to the shimmer is in using correct value & color separation between the bold prints and correct placement of the half-square triangle blocks. This pattern was created by Jenny Bowker from Australia. I may not have her cute accent, but I have her permission to teach this class. Since time is limited, we will only work on a small portion of the quilt, but each student will understand how to make the triangle blocks with the correct placement and value separation to continue their shimmer at home.

Class Supply List –

1⁄4 to 1/3 yard of 5 different feature fabrics. (Fat quarters may work unless you are fussy cutting specific motifs) Choose one main feature fabric and then choose 4 other fabrics that will contrast with it. They can all be big prints, but they must have good color and value separation.

Please wait until class to cut the border and corner fabrics but you will need:

Borders: Decide on fabrics that will contrast or blend with the main focus fabrics

Cut one 8 ½ x 4 ½ inch rectangle

Cut two 6 ½ x 6 ½ inch squares from each border print. These can be all be from the same fabric or multiple different fabrics.

Corner posts: Cut one 4 ½ x 4 ½ inch piece and one 6 ½ x 6 ½ inch piece of the same fabric.  Each corner can be from the same fabric or each different

Bring extra fabrics to class to audition.

8 ½ inch square of each of the 5 fabrics

Four 6 ½ inch squares of each of the 5 fabrics

If you are concerned about your fabric choices, please wait until class to cut them. Stripes or chevrons won't work well.
